The saying "stay close to your friends and closer to your enemies" was demonstrated by Sensei Xavier and our other senseis during our June 19 MAI Interclub at our sister dojo in Malolos, Bulacan; new techniques were introduced and foundation techniques finessed. Our aikidokas were encouraged by the higher level of practice demonstrated by their senpais and senseis from our federation and the camaraderie that was shared over lunch.
We look forward to meeting them again next time and extend our best regards to all our federation senpais and senseis who will be levelling up in their paths as aikidokas. Ganbatte!

2nd 2016 MAI Interclub UP Diliman

Makiling Aikido International successfully held its second Interclub Keiko event for the year 2016 at the UP Diliman Dojo inside the Vanguard Building, CHK on April 2, Saturday from 2PM to 4:30PM
The event was well attended with the students of the PE Classes joining in.
All in all it was a hot tiring afternoon of zagi, starting off with a workshop led by Sensei Raffy reviewing the basics of shikko walking technique. Our formal keiko session then followed with our yudansha instructors each providing a suwari waza technique. A real challenge for tender knees, but everyone made it through with smiles left to share. As an added bonus, the whole practice was done with authentic Capoeira music playing full volume in the background. (It is a shared dojo, after all)
On a side note, the venue was where I got my first 6 hours of instruction in Aikido from Sensei Tom Edison Pena back in 1989. The place certainly has a history of martial arts practice behind it. (^o^)
Thanks to everyone for showing true determination.

A large contingent of MAI Members including our visiting members from MAI Saudi Arabia participated in the two-hour Sunday morning session on February 21. During the seminar Yasuno Shihan provided strong pointers on the importance of taisabaki and valuable insights on espousing a spirit of change in order to attain the next phase of advancement in our practice of Aikido.
Thank you Yasuno Shihan for your instruction and warmest regards to our fellow Aikido practitioners.
Makiling Aikido International recently held its first Interclub Keiko Practice for the year 2016 at BPI Dojo on February 20, Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN.
The event started with a bokken workshop led by Sensei Raffy giving pointers on the proper way of holding the bokken and sword drawing then relating it to basic taijutsu techniques.
Our formal keiko session started off at a fast pace with our yudansha from MAI Saudi Sensei Osama leading the group in a quick succession of techniques. The keiko continued with Sensei Bal, Sensei Adurrhaman, Sensei Raffy and Sensei Xavier taking turns in leading the class.
There was also a solemn awarding ceremony with Certificates of Appreciation awarded to Sensei Xavier Baylon, Sensei Raffy Ravago, Sensei Abdurrhaman Ogues and Sensei Roy Calinga for their contributions to the activities of Makiling Aikido International.
